Meanings of surah names in Arabic
1- Surah Al-Baqarah:
Surat Al-Baqarah is so-called because it contains the story of the cow and the sons of Israel

The surah included a thousand commandments, a thousand prohibitions, a thousand rulings, and a thousand reports.

3- Surat An-Nisa: It means women.

Its verses are 120, and their arrangement in the Qur’an is 5.
- Surah Al-An’am: It was called “Surat Al-An’am” because of the mention of the cattle in it.
They made for God an inheritance of what was spared from the plowing and the livestock. “
Because most of its rulings which are explained by the ignorance of the polytheists, bringing them closer to their idols, are mentioned in it and among its characteristics is what was narrated on the authority of Ibn Abbas.
6- Surat Al-A’raf: It means customs.
Its verses 206,

It extends from the middle of the eighth part to the end of the ninth part,
Usages are the plural of custom, and custom is everything that is high and sublime
It can be said that custom is a set of habits and behaviors that govern people’s social life
The word custom is mentioned in the Holy Surah, where the Almighty said: (Take a pardon and enjoin custom, and turn away from the ignorant).
But the reason why Surat Al-A’raf is called this name is due to the mention of the word al-A’raf in it.
Meanings of some surah names in Arabic
- Surah Al-Anfal: It means the spoils.
The number of its verses is 75
It is the eighth chapter in the Qur’an
I was revealed after Surah Al-Baqarah
The surah is concerned with the rulings of prisoners and spoils and was revealed after the Battle of Badr
Surah Al-Anfal was given this name to mention the rule of the Anfal in it, and Al-Anfal: they are the spoils.
8- Surah al-Tawbah: It was revealed to the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was in Medina
With the exception of two verses No. 128 and 129, which were revealed to the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was in Makkah.
It is the ninth surah in the Holy Qur’an

God Almighty sent him to a people who “returned” the arrogant and arrogant people who were deceived by the strength of their bodies, and they said, “Who is stronger than us, and God destroyed them with the fierce roaring wind.”
Although the story of Noah occupies a large part of Surat Hood
However, the surah was not named after Surah Noah
Because there is another surah in the Holy Quran that bears the name of Surat Noah
It is a surah that deals with the story of the Prophet Noah and his people in detail.

11-Surah Yusuf:
It is ranked twelfth between the one hundred and fourteen chapters of the Qur’an.
The number of its verses is a hundred and eleven
In the order of the Noble Qur’an it is located after Surat Hood and before Surat Al-Raad.
It is the fifty-third surah in terms of revelation, according to Badr al-Din al-Zarkashid
It was revealed after Surah Hood and before Surat Al-Hijr.
The surah was so-called because it dealt with the story of the Prophet of God, Joseph
Where the surah contained the complete story of Joseph with all its features in one surah
The surah lists the types of calamities that Yusef suffered from his brothers

- Surah Al-Raad: It means the thunder.

13- Surah Ibrahim: Surah Ibrahim was called by this name because in it the story of our master Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and his son were mentioned.
As it included the story of the housing of our master Ibrahim to the lady Hajar and his son, our master Ismail, in a valley with no planting or water
She also talked about our master Abraham, peace be upon him, thanking God Almighty for having bestowed upon him the blessing of the boy, and the Prophet Ismail and the Prophet Isaac separated him.
Calling the surah after the Prophet Abraham is considered to be his memorial
He is the father of the prophets who destroyed the idols and built the Forbidden House, along with his son Ismail
The lineage of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, goes back to him.
- Surah Al-Hijr: It means stone
Surah Al-Hijr was called by this name due to the mention of the word stone in the eighty verse of it, so the Almighty said: {And the messengers of the stone have lied to them.
The owners of the stone are the people of the Prophet of God, peace be upon him
Surah spoke about them in five verses
It is the only surah of the Holy Qur’an that describes the Saleh tribe with this description.
15.Surah An-Nahl:It means bee
The reason for naming Surat An-Nahl Surah an-Nahl was called this name in relation to the insect of the bees that were mentioned in the surah.
That was where it talked about the benefits of this insect, and its benefits to people, as it provides useful food for the body that a person needs.
16- Surah Al-Israa:
This surah was called (Al-Israa). The incident of the Night Journey, with which God honored His Prophet,
Where he set off from the Grand Mosque to the Al-Aqsa Mosque,
I mentioned this incident in the first verse
Surat Al-Israa is the seventeenth surah within the fifteenth part of the Noble Qur’an
It is from the Meccan surahs, and its name is taken from the first verse.
- Surah Maryam: It is the nineteenth surah within the sixteenth part of the Noble Qur’an

Her name is taken from the story of Mary, which begins with her mention in the verse.
